Tom Six's Human Centipede 2, Banned for being harmful to viewers

I was reading the paper yesterday and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that Dutch Director, Tom Six's sequel to his horror flick the Centipede had been banned. The British Board of Film Classification refused to award it with an 18 certificate as they said that the film could "harm viewers". It has been dubbed "the sickest movie of all time" and considering in the first Centipede, a scientist (obviously cuckoo) was seen to be stitching the bodies of his kidnap victims together. Some cinema goers were physically sick from these scenes out of the first film. I really want to see Centipede 2, just for the fact that it has been banned (and im a morbid soul at heart). What did the BBFC deem so terrible that is was unfit for UK release? Tom Six has claimed that his film is "art" and his first film is like watching a children’s show compared to the sequel. All films are art and should be shown. A Clockwork Orange was banned and now that is one of the must-see films of all time. Give it a couple of years and Centipede 2 will be available in the UK. Happy Viewing bloggers

Coronation Street and Eastenders, Easy to get a Job

It seems to be so easy to get a job in the soaps (unless your Xin or Billy Mitchell) unlike in real life. Finding the job you want, in the area you need, with the right hours to still do the school run... impossible at the minute. Thats another thing. They seem to leave thier kids with anyone, and the kids dont seem to be with the parents at all. When was the last time we actually saw a scene with Maria;s baby?

Film Review Red Mist

Watching this film at the minute. Im not sure what it is but the film just seems to have a mellow/slow pace. The murders range from having their heads slammed in car doors to having acid poured into a funnel that is taped to the victims mouth. now that is not a nice way to go. It is quite unique. the story is about a mentally challenged janitor, who is tormented by some of the medical students. He ends up in a coma and whilst one of the students had decided to try and help him she injects him with a trial drug, and he takes over a body of anyone in the hospital and uses them to kill off his tormentors. The people can not remember what they have done afterwards, which as you can imagine causes some problems. The drug causes him to experience an outer body experience, within another body.  This film taps into the unconscious and maybe some psychoanalytical work could be done on this film. Not sure whether I would watch this one again or whether it will be shelved.....

Coronation Street 6th June 2011

So last night’s Corrie was interesting; the aftermath. Becky has broken into Roy’s Rolls, Dev and Sunita get a visit from the Aunties and can’t pay for a meal as their debts are that great. Kylie and David are still trying to get Max and Tracy is still the scheming cow she has always. She said to Becky (now she has had Max taken away) there will be a spare biscuit Amy, you can have Max’s. Nasty cow. And Graeme, why oh why did you tell David you slept with Xin. Why didn’t the police let Fiz sort out someone to care for her new born daughter whilst they dragged her to the police station? They just assumed Chesney would do it. I’m not sure whether to say I told you so Fiz or have pity on her. She did commit fraud of her own free will and she did help move the body (whilst in shock and being forced to by a murderer, what would he have done to her if she had not helped him? Where is John Stape? Will the police catch him? Or will he turn up in a few year’s? That is what I would like to see. And what is going on with the whole Max case. I’m not sure if Kylie genuinely wants her son back or not. David seems to be pushing it.  Will the court really give that kid back to her, after she sold him? God help him if they do. But then again, and I hate to say it but… David seems to be growing up and he really does want Max?

Shane Meadows Film/Mocumentary Le Donk and Scor Zay Zee review

Shane Meadows low budget comedy mockumentary is about Le Donk, a roadie helping out for the Arctic Monkeys gig  (or the Arctical Monkeys as Le Donk calls them) at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester. Le Donk is managing a new act called ScorZayZee ( played by a real-life rapper Dean Palinczuk). This film is undeniably funny, just in the way Paddy Considine brings the character of Le Donk to life. Another fantastic performance by the Considine. He manages to get a slot for ScorZayZee to headline the Arctic Monkeys whilst he flees back to see his new born son (conceived on a  drunken one night stand) and as they have split up the animosity between Le Donk and her new younger lover is hilarious. He acts as though he isn’t bothered about the kid, saying that it’s not like the old days, I can see it when its 18, even though he kicked up such a fuss about her new lover being the birthing partner. Meadow's portrays a man who has no morals but the character of Le Donk seems to go through a transition. He realises his responsibilities and decides to go back to see his new born instead of headlining the Arctic Monkeys (a massive sacrifice for Le Donk) he does go back to do the set and the film ends on a happy note. Le Donk has the same character or personality as the likes of Alan Partridge, giving the character a familiar feel. The appearance of the Arctic Monkeys was a nice touch, as they are so well known and liked. Meadows had created a funny narrative with a strange moment when ScorZayZee reveals he has converted to Islam and he states the first chapter of the Koran. This film was shot in 5 days, and the footage captured on those days made for humorous viewing. The arguments that Le Donk causes between the production team (especially the women) is hilarious, and these hissy fits he has, is what makes Le Donk's character so funny. Meadows follows Le Donk on his journey from Le Donk’s flat in Nottingham to Manchester, Old Trafford Cricket Ground, at the Arctic Monkey gig. The improvisation is brilliant and the fans at this gig must have had a great experience; I would have loved to have been there. Having seen the Arctic Monkeys myself; this would have been the best gig ever. Has anyone else seen this film? What did you think?

New films to review

Just been to Blockbuster to get a few new films. One I have been dying to see for ages, Le Donk and Scor-Zay-Zee by the great Director Shane Meadows. Can't wait to see this, looking at previous reviews it is good, really good, but that is to be expected from such a great director. The other two films I purchased are Dead Silence, written by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the creators of Saw and starring the actor, Ryan Kwanten, who plays Jason in True Blood. The third film is Savage, directed by Brendan Muldowney and reviewed by The Sunday Times as "Reminiscent of...Scorseses Taxi Driver" both Horror/Thriller movies. Love a bit of that. Now will I be curled up behind the sofa cushions or will I be giggling at the time wasted by the film-makers. Post you later.

Let’s start the best soapbox blogbox!

Tonight is the night. Monday night soap fest; or as my fiance calls it "Death by Soap". come back later to view my posts on tonights aftermath in Coronation Street...

“I am always doing that which I do not know how to do in order to learn how to do it” – Picasso

We continuously learn new things every day and each individual has the power to make a significant and positive contribution to society. I would like to be one of them and I invite you to join me. Comment and join the discussion.

Is there anything you would like me to write about? Just contact me and I will be pleased to help with your request. And again as Picasso said “I am always doing that which I do not know how to do in order to learn how to do it”.

Why start blogging?

Why have I decided to start a blog? Well I have learned so much throughout my academic studies and personal experiences. Joining together my knowledge of life and the social media, I intend to influence others and to listen, learn and take in what other bloggers and blog readers have to say. I love researching and writing, putting a perspective on areas often obscured in shadow. These works are often the last works to be analysed or to be seen as ‘worth writing about’. I believe they are and this blog will show that. I will look at many aspects of the media with a collection of both short blogs and a section including some academic essays. Films, Television (including drama and soap opera), magazine reviews, creative writing pieces, and views on social issues represented in the media. My aim is to publish my work and views in the hope of writing professionally as a career. I love writing and I hope that this blog interests you in the same way it interests me. Please return for updates. There is a lot more to come from me and I would love to hear from you.

First Blog - Hello Bloggers

Hi bloggers, my name is Lea and I am embarking on a career in writing. I have a BA Honours in Sociology and Film and Television Studies and I started writing for pleasure when I became part of an international journal, Transgressive Culture. Along with being an Editorial Assistant, I was asked to write a piece for the first issue. I then discovered that I actually enjoyed writing about subjects that I feel strongly about and I wish to continue doing this. I am a regular television watcher, every night from 7pm the TV is mine! No arguments soaps all the way followed by an exciting drama and possibly a film. I cannot get enough of the different representations, and I just have to talk about it and speculate. This is the best place to do it and any comments you leave will be answered and greatly welcomed. You can follow this blog and also subscribe to the email service. Come and get involved in the speculation.
